If the answer to both these questions is yes, then the Met Office’s Weather Observations Website (WOW) is for you.

WOW provides a hub for UK and world weather observations allowing amateur enthusiasts to share their weather data. The more people using the site the stronger a tool it becomes, with obvious implications for farming.

As Aidan Green, Strategic Projects Manager at the Met Office, says: "People love to talk about the weather, and WOW gives everyone an exciting and easy way to share their observations and photos of it with others. With an average of over 4 million observations being received every month, WOW has really captured the imagination of weather enthusiasts in the UK and around the world.”

The Met Office is improving WOW by launching a new mobile weather page which will allow you to upload either a report or photographs of current weather conditions directly from your mobile phones.

By sharing current weather observations you can help build up a picture of how the weather is varying from place to place as it moves across the country. More targeted weather information provided through WOW could also help you be more prepared for severe weather as others track the movement of weather fronts and their impacts across the country.

It will also help Met Office forecasters monitor weather systems and impacts as they happen. This all helps the Met Office to make assessments of accuracy of forecasts and the usability of severe weather warnings.
