Defra Survey of Land Managed Voluntarily

The survey will be sent to 7,500 randomly selected lowland farmers across England who have more than 10 hectares of land. The survey is used to capture the official statistics for land managed outside of any paid agri-environment scheme and CFE partners are challenging farmers to improve on last years’ 39 percent response rate.

CFE are encouraging all farmers to complete the survey as it will help to build a strong farming voice and demonstrate how land can and is being managed responsibly.

As we move into the new CAP, CFE will be under more scrutiny and the results of this survey will play a huge role in informing both Campaign partners and Government of what farmers and the CFE has achieved. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete eleven questions and farmers should answer these based on their land management for the current 2013 to 2014 cropping year.

The results for this years’ survey will be available in mid-June. The 2013 results showed a total of 676,705 ha of land managed voluntarily, with 6778 skylark plots and 6781 km of fencing adjacent to watercourses.
