Defra launched an Agriculture, Animal Health and Welfare, Plant Health and Forestry theme under its Red Tape Challenge.
The Red Tape Challenge was launched by the Cabinet Office in April 2011 to open up Government regulation to scrutiny and challenge of the public and businesses. In August, the theme was Agriculture with Government keen to hear where rules overlap, are too complicated or where they are now redundant. The NFU submitted a formal response to this theme in September which can be read here. Our responses reiterated priority areas from our initial submission to the Macdonald review where we felt change is not being made at a quick enough pace or where progress has stalled. Our response also focused on other priority areas which have arisen since the Macdonald review.
