A new code of practice that will have statutory powers has been published by Government.
The Regulators Code, which comes into statutory effect in April 2014, provides a framework for how regulators should engage with those they regulate and outlines the services that businesses can expect. Nearly all non-economic regulators including local authorities are within scope of the code and they must have regard to it when developing policies and procedures that guide regulatory activities.
Businesses who feel that the principles of the code are not being fulfilled will be able to challenge regulators.
