Letter from the Immigration Minister

Sprout farm Chipping Campden Dec 2017_49542

The NFU has received correspondence from Immigration Minister Brandon Lewis outlining the Home Office’s approach to guaranteeing the rights of EU nationals currently resident and working in the UK.

NFU members can login to read the letter in full here.

There are three simple messages the Home Office is asking employers to share with their staff who are EU nationals:

  • You will be able to stay if you are in the UK when the UK leaves the EU;
  • Close family members will be able to join you; and
  • It will be easy and inexpensive to apply for settled status and a streamlined process will open during the second half of 2018.

There is a website with further information here and interested parties can sign up for regular official email updates on citizens’ rights here.

The NFU will continue to work with the Home Office to make sure our members are kept up to date with the latest information on citizens’ rights and to ensure EU nationals working in food and farming are aware of what they need to do to secure their rights.
