Think ‘Safety’ before sowing and spraying
Spring is in the air, and field work is ramping up a gear. But don’t let this busy time catch you out!
April marks the beginning of the sowing and spraying season, and all these activities present their own safety risks. Large bags filled with heavy material, such as seed, are dangerous if handled incorrectly.
The Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC) has provided a simple A4 guide (https://www.agindustries.org.uk/latest-documents/handling-big-bags-on-farm/handling-big-bags-on-farm.pdf) which provides essential tips.
Similarly, when it comes to preparing for pesticide usage, check out the HSE’s Code of Practice for using plant protection products http://www.pesticides.gov.uk/guidance/industries/pesticides/topics/using-pesticides/codes-of-practice/code-of-practice-for-using-plant-protection-products for advice and guidance on how to take all reasonable precautions when storing, handling, using, keeping records and disposing of pesticides and pesticide waste.
