Tom Price outlined how farmers can help to protect themselves and their employees by having robust safety procedures in place. He said: “Smaller farms often face some of the highest risks in agriculture as their workers are carrying out a wider range of tasks, often on their own. Their attention can easily become distracted, so we would recommend having a risk assessment tool to help them assess threats, mitigate dangers and comply with legislation.
“One such tool is the NFU Mutual SafetyHub, where you can log in and manage your risk management plans online, from a phone or tablet, wherever you are on the farm. The programme consists of articles and videos that users are guided through.
"Once modules are complete, specific risk management plans to address a variety of workplace hazards are generated. Plus there are seasonal reminders and advice on specific health and safety issues, such as pre-harvest checks and preventing mud being left on roads”.
Run by NFU Mutual Risk Management Services, the SafetyHub complements the company’s long-established face-to-face risk management consultancy service. Find out more here.
