Start the New Year by recognising that accidents do not need to happen:
- Drivers getting out of vehicles can be protected by following the safe stop procedure
- Pedestrians can be protected by measures such as separating vehicles and pedestrians where ever possible ; by ensuring windows and mirrors on vehicles are clean and drivers have good visibility; high visibility clothing is used to warn others of your presence
- Equipment under repair is adequately secured and supported
The safety record of agriculture can be improved but it needs all people working in the industry to change attitudes and behaviours and make safety part of the normal every day thought and work process.
