Young child killed by vehicle on farm

Farm Safety Week 2018_55310

The incident happened on a farm near Llanybydder in Carmarthenshire and an investigation was launched by the local police.

Dyfed-Powys Police named the boy as Evan Lloyd Williams and said officers were providing support to his family.

Children, often the sons and daughters of farmers, are killed on farm every year, but many such tragedies could be prevented if all farmers took a few simple steps:

  • Children should not be allowed in the farm work place (and for young children they should enjoy outdoor space in a secure fenced area)
  • Any access to the work area by children under 16, for example for education or knowledge/experience, should be fully supervised by an adult not engaged in any work activity
  • Children under the age of 13 yrs. are specifically prohibited from driving or riding on any agricultural machine
