Free business resilience support for farmers

Hill farm in Yorkshire

As part of the agricultural transition, Defra has said it will provide resilience support to those farmers most likely to be impacted by it and the ending of direct payments. The full programme is scheduled to start in 2022, but nine pilot projects are running now.

Spaces are still available for livestock, mixed and tenanted farms in Yorkshire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire on a pilot project by Ricardo. The resilience support package on offer from Ricardo includes:

  • Agricultural transition resilience planning webinars – with an adviser from The Anderson Centre introducing tools and tips on reviewing business performance. Participants will also receive insight on the future changes to agricultural policy and the opportunities and threats these may bring.
  • One-to-one farm resilience review – A specialist business adviser from The Anderson Centre will visit the business and support them in identifying potential risks and opportunities. Places are limited to 60 participants (20 per region) and there are a few still available.
  • Group peer-to-peer event – Those who have received the resilience review will be asked to participant in this event, bringing together local farmers to talk about risks and opportunities, to share ideas and learn from each other.
  • A personal resilience plan – A personalised plan identifying actions to help mitigate the risks that the business faces and to support with implementation. This is the final stage of the programme, for those who have entered the one-to-one element.

Places are strictly limited, so if you want to take advantage of this free support to better understand what the ending of direct payments may mean for you, your business and ways to adapt, book your place on Eventbrite here. Alternatively, call 01235 753530 or email RkZSRkByaWNhcmRvLmNvbQ==

Priority will be given to livestock, mixed and tenanted farms. More information on the Agricultural Transition Plan on NFUonline can be found here.
