Deadline approaches for Driver CPC

New guidance released by DSA

The NFU wrote to ministers about the CPC requirement and is disappointed that there is no exemption for those undertaking limited journeys in agriculture.

The guidance can be found here.

Of note, the guidance states “Driver E is a farmer. On an average of once a month, he drives his animals to a local cattle market for auction. He requires a CPC when undertaking this activity as he is not carrying materials or equipment to be used by him in the course of his work. The farmer is carrying cattle intended for sale.”

Members  have expressed real concern at the difficulties they will face in ensuring that they receive 35 hours training by 9th September this year for minibus drivers over 8 seats (D and D1) and 9th September 2014 for those driving good vehicles over 3.5t  (C and C1 Category Drivers).

Note: Those driving in D and C Category need to only complete one set of 35 hours CPC, but this must be completed by 9th September 2013 in order to continue to drive minibuses commercially.

The NFU believes that this situation is not acceptable for its members and that it will place a disproportionate burden on operators to arrange training for a driver who only drive trucks or minibuses for a short time.
