The DVLA's  Share Driving Licence service is now available on GOV.UK. ‘Check driving Licence’ has been added to allow licences to be checked using the code provided by the driver.

The DVLA has provided step by step guides showing how licences can be shared,  and how to redeem a licence code to view a person’s driving licence.

Starting from 10 July 2015, the DVLA has extended the validity period from 72 hours to 21 days. Car hire companies or employers will still need the last eight digits of the driver’s licence number to redeem the code. The licence code can be cancelled at any time, putting the user in control of when their record can be accessed and by whom.

The DVLA plan to review this extension to the length of time the code is valid in three months time once they’ve had sufficient further feedback from users and industry. Read more here.
