HS2 update: South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire

High speed train, hs2, rail, transport_22801

On 7 July Sir David Higgins announced an alternative route and station proposal for South
Yorkshire. There is now a proposal to take a spur off the new high speed line.

The report looks at the location for a station and the route in South Yorkshire and high speed city centre proposals at both Sheffield Midland station and the Sheffield Victoria station.

Our latest HS2 newsletter for members has more details about the latest report from Sir David Higgins and the maps highlighting the new route - read it here.

Comment: I think the NFU should be more robust in opposing HS2. The economic benefits are dubious and far outweighed by the environmental costs, and food security will become increasingly important with increased global warming. If we were French the A1 would be blocked by tractors until the government cancelled their vanity project. The miserly compensation is an insult to farmers, and no compensation can mitigate the heartbreak of family farms being destroyed..
