Defra predicts that high speed broadband and better transport links will help to create a boom in jobs and productivity in the countryside within the next decade.

A statement on the Defra website says: "A revolution in communications, coupled with improvements in transport and changes to our working patterns could see the UK's rural economy growing faster than our urban areas.

"More rural opportunities could increase rural employment in England by 6% - or more than 300,000 jobs."

Speaking on a link up from the BBC's Cardiff studio, Meurig said he welcomed the news that 95% of UK premises in 2017 will have superfast broadband although this rollout should happen more quickly.

He also said that farmers were the backbone of rural communities.

Meurig was lucky enough to get the most out of his post-Christmas trip from his farm in Pembrokeshire by visiting Cardiff Livestock Market to view some store lambs!
