Agricultural waste: what to do with on-farm waste
Waste materials generated on farm such as plastic and cardboard packaging wastes, plant trimmings, demolition rubble and redundant machinery have been controlled since the introduction of The Waste Management (England and Wales) Regulations 2006; these have subsequently been replaced, and the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 currently govern the management of Waste. When considering options available for managing agricultural waste, it should be remembered that burying waste and open air burning of non-natural waste on farm is illegal.
Activities taking place on farm which involve storage, treatment, use or disposal of “waste” materials are controlled by waste regulations.
