Houses of Parliament BBF pledge Brexit_35798

Lord Campbell of Pittenweem , Menzies Campbell

"Farming is essential to the rural economy and helps maintain the rural environment and of course it is high time we made ourselves self sufficient. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t be self sufficient, and I see at very short range the difficulties which my (farming) step son has. When the yields are high the prices are low, when the weather is bad the yields are poor. It has been in the last three or four years a very rocky ride that is why British citizens, whether in the House of Commons or House of Lords should be supporting British farming."

Sir William Cash, MP for Stone

Jo Churchill, Conservative, Bury St Edmunds
“Farming represents £8.5bn to the UK economy and provides nearly four million jobs. We need to make sure for health, wealth and well-being of the nation that we back British farming. Going into this new landscape, for me, it is important there is a level playing field for British farmers. As a mum, it is important I can trace food to its origin and like many people, animal welfare is high up on my agenda when it comes to buying food. British farmers should not be disadvantaged for working to such a high standard, compared to some of their counterparts from abroad.”

Nick Clegg, Liberal Democrat, MP for Sheffield Hallam
_36271

Steve Double, Conservative, MP for St Austell
“I think it is absolutely essential that we continue to back British farming. Firstly, financially, through farm payments, we need to make sure we support British farming. And we also need to reduce the amount of regulation and red tape that so many farmers face. And we need to continue to promote British food – we have some of the best quality food produced in the world.”

George Eustice – agriculture, fisheries and food minister and MP for Cambourne, Redruth and Hayle

"Food and farming is our largest industry in this country, it is worth over £108bn a year – bigger than aerospace and automotives put together.  It is a huge industry. It employs millions of people and the truth is that a lot of our highly successful processing industry also depends on having a supply chain, and profitable, successful primary producers. So yes, agriculture being at the start of that food supply chain, part of a vitally important and very large industry, It is clearly going to feature very prominently in future policy."

Graham Evans, Conservative, MP for Weaver Vale

George Freeman, Conservative, MP for Mid-Norfolk

John Glen, Conservative, MP for Salisbury and Parliamentary Private Secretary to Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond

"I am acutely aware we are entering a time of opportunity but also uncertainty, and  it is essential that we absolutely get it right for our farmers. So I am here today to show support to and acknowledge the enormous contribution that farmers make to the rural community and also to all households up and down the country in terms of the quality of produce they come out with."

Clive Lewis MP, Labour, Norwich South

"Sourcing food locally is vitally important and in Norwich we’re extremely lucky to be well-served by excellent farm produce from East Anglia.  It’s vital that we continue to give UK farmers the best support we possibly can – national economic, social and environmental resilience cannot be achieved without a strong farming community."

_36270

Rachael Maskell MP, Labour, York Central
“It is now vital that the Government listens to British farmers, provides confirmation that trade relations with EU partners will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future, and immediate assurance given to EU citizens currently working on British farms that they are allowed to live and work in the UK. I support the call from the NFU to back British farming and as Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, I will do all I can to help develop a robust domestic agricultural policy.”

_37028

Nigel Mills MP, Conservative, Amber Valley (Derbyshire)
“Amber Valley MP, Nigel Mills heard the hopes and fears of farmers post Brexit and discussed immediate concerns such as Bovine TB when he visited  Peter & Andrea Booth of Belper. Mr Mills signed the NFU Brexit pledge which sets out what is wanted from a Brexit deal. Pictured here with Derbyshire Central Group Secretary, Fiona Traquair; a pedigree Simmental Heifer; Andrea & Peter Booth and Nigel Mills MP. He then went onto to meet Derby Branch member, Andrew Wint at Oakfield Farm & Farm Shop and equestrian centre at Stanley Common, Ilkeston where conversation centred on the difficulties of getting planning permission for on-farm diversifications despite the benefits for rural employment.”

_36266

Neil Parish MP, Conservative, Tiverton and Honiton
“It was a great pleasure to host the NFU ‘What next for British agriculture?’ event in Parliament. As chair of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, I will be holding the Government’s feet to the fire to ensure the best possible renegotiation deal for British agriculture. This means maintaining tariff-free access to the EU for British agricultural goods and ensuring the British Government preserves the level of support payments to British farmers currently provided through the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy.”

_36267

Baroness Anne MacIntosh, Conservative
“Farming is such an important part of our rural community. In Parliament we need to be doing all we can to make sure farmers and those in rural communities have their voice heard loud and clear. We need to make sure that farmers have the labour that they need to run their businesses and we need to ensure they can produce the food to feed a growing population.”

Andrew Selous MP, Conservative, South West Bedfordshire

Jim Shannon, MP, Democratic Unionist, Strangford

"We are going to be better; we are going to do better. We will have new markets and new people to sell food to, and I think the future in my opinion is very bright and very positive, and I am excited. But we have to help our agri-food industry, we have got to make sure our farmers – the dairymen in particular – get the price for their product. That applies to all of them. Support the British farmers, support British food – and I think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to pledge that and do that ourselves."

_36268

Helen Whately, MP, Conservative, Faversham and Mid Kent
“I already spend a lot of time in my constituency talking to fruit farmers, arable farmers and livestock farmers. Every few weeks I’m visiting farms and talking to them about the issues that affect them at that time. Things are obviously going to change now the UK has voted to leave the EU. One thing I am keen to hear from fruit farmers in my area is how they need access to labour. This is very important. Ongoing access to a migrant workforce is one of their concerns and I am determined to fully understand this issue and represent my constituents on their needs.”
