Mr Eustice visited the NFU stand and spent around 30 minutes speaking with Mr Raymond, NFU combinable crops board chairman Mike Hambly, and other NFU staff members.
After the meeting, Mr Raymond said: “I congratulated the Minister on his reappointment and I was pleased that, within days of being reconfirmed in the role, he was visiting the NFU stand at Cereals to sit down and discuss some of the key issues farming is facing post-election and in the run-up to Brexit.
“We discussed a wide range of topics surrounding Brexit – trade, seasonal labour, a future domestic agricultural policy, and the need for regulation to be based on sound science. We discussed how vital plant protection products are for the combinable crops sector and the concerns farmers have over the future availability of neonicotinoids and glyphosate. These discussions will continue in the weeks and months ahead.
“We both agreed how important it is to build a profitable, innovative and competitive farming sector for the future and the importance of ensuring we achieve the best possible outcome for farming from Brexit.
“I thanked the Minister for his continued support of British farming and we look forward to working with him and the new Secretary of State Michael Gove.”
