National combinable crops board elects new chair

Mr Bradshaw grows a range of combinable crops and previously sat on the crops board.

After his election, Mr Bradshaw said: “I am delighted to be elected as crops board chairman and to have the opportunity to represent arable farmers around the UK. This is a pivotal time for British agriculture and while change is nothing new, Brexit has put a clear line in the sand. I look forward to working positively and proactively to make sure we are leading and influencing political decision making.

“For me, industry partnerships are more important than ever because a supply chain which truly values traceable, locally produced British food – and is committed to its procurement – is the best way we can protect ourselves against cheaper imports.”

Previous crops board member Phil Jarvis has been elected as the board’s vice-chairman.

Mr Jarvis is farm manager at the GWCT Allerton Project at Loddington in Leicestershire, farming in an arable joint venture of 800ha, growing winter wheat, winter oilseed rape, winter/spring oats and winter/spring beans.  He is also a member of the NFU Environment Forum.

Mr Jarvis said: “I’m very happy to have been elected as vice-chairman and I look forward to working with the board and members to face this challenging period in British agriculture. I hope to provide a strong NFU voice which will help government combine a coherent food policy with environmental enhancement.”
