Are you in an NVZ following the 2017 review?
Formal notification of which lands are to be classified as Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) is now underway.
Designated areas are shown on an interactive map available from the EA WIYBY website. Search by postcode or placename.
Click on the EA overview map to see the main changes proposed. The dark blue areas are proposed as new NVZs, light blue areas are existing NVZs while red areas will be removed as NVZs.
Defra will notify farmers in NVZs by post between now and the end of February. Notices will be sent in the following three batches, organised by River Basin District:
|3 Jan||North West, Solway Tweed, Dee, Severn|
|23 Jan||Anglian, Thames, South East, South West|
|20 Feb||Northumbria, Humber|
Farmers have 28 days from the date of notification to appeal the decision to designate land as an NVZ.
NFU members can find out more about NVZ designations and appeals by logging in and viewing the briefings below. An FAQ document is also available explaining some emerging issues during the designation and notification process.
