At its fringe event at the Labour Party Conference, the NFU engaged with prospective Labour parliamentary candidates from across the country who wanted to know how to engage with farmers and rural communities.
The NFU’s stand at the conference was voted one of the best by delegates1 and it saw hundreds of MPs and delegates pledge their support for British farming.
The NFU will continue its lobbying efforts at the Conservative Party Conference next week. It also held a fringe event at the Liberal Democrat Party Conference last week.
NFU President Minette Batters said: “There has never been a more important time to highlight just how much farming delivers for the nation. As well as producing the safe, traceable and affordable food that millions enjoy while looking after our iconic countryside, British food and farming is contributing over £120 billion to the national bank and jobs for almost 4 million people.
“British farmers have some of the highest standards of animal welfare, environmental protection and food safety in the world and I am proud to once again shout about this at party conferences.
“This is such a valuable opportunity to showcase our sector and engage with both MPs and prospective parliamentary candidates. It’s crucial all politicians understand how important it is to connect with their farmers and rural communities and recognise how much they deliver for the nation and what more they can do with the right policies in place.”
The NFU stand was awarded second place in the ‘Best Stand’ award at Labour Party Conference.
