Blog: Picture a pollinator and win a hectare of wildflower mix

A thriving bee population can help improve farm productivity. Campaign for the Farmed Environment adviser Bethan Williams explains why farmers are being asked to take photos of to show their work in action.

As part of the Campaign for the Farmed Environment the NFU and partners are giving away one hectare of pollen and nectar mix.

All you need to do is take a photo of your existing farm flower mixes and send it to us. Our panel of judges will pick their favourite photo and if you are chosen as the lucky winner we will send you enough seeds to cover a hectare of land.

It couldn’t be easier.

But you might be wondering why we are making such a generous offer. Surely there is a catch?

Making sure there are plenty of pollinators on farms is a priority for us at the CFE and we believe it should be for thousands of British farmers too.

Providing food for pollinating insects is vital for farm businesses as the more cross pollination on farm the higher chancer of a large yield.

The mix has been designed to attract and feed pollinators, along with hosting insects that are important food sources for farmland bird chicks. So having the bees and seeds mix will not only help your farm business but it will help all biodiversity that lives in and around your farm!
