During NFU conference 2014 (NFU14), there were key discussions on the importance of science within our industry and how research facilities in the country underpin the capacity of agriculture to deliver on clear and important production aims.

What can be drawn from NFU14 was, for the agricultural sector within Britain to become more productive and resilient, the industry needs to be innovative and responsive to future challenges. Agricultural science plays a key role in enabling farm businesses to respond to the challenges; thus creating industry growth and resilience.

This interactive map pinpoints the geographical location (and links to websites) of the key research providers that are delivering research that will help commercial farmers within Great Britain achieve sustainable intensification objectives.

The NFU drew on funding providers such as the Agricultural and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), the Technology Strategy Board, Biotechnology and Bioscience Research Council (BBSRC) and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to map the research facilities, through who are the most used ‘contractors’.
