Bovine TB hits Minsterley Show entries

Pile of newspapers on computer keyboard

Organisers of the Minsterley Show have confirmed that three exhibitors have pulled out of the showpiece on Saturday due to the on-going spread of the deadly disease.

The exhibitors, from farms in Cheshire and North Wales, were planning to attend the 137th show, near Shrewsbury, this weekend. Instead, they will now be forced to destroy cattle which have contracted the disease.

It is not known how many cows are affected.

Show chairman Barry Conde said it was “frightening” how bovine TB was spreading. He told the newspaper: "It is nobody’s fault at all but once they go down with TB they cannot bring them to shows – the rules are very strict and three exhibitors have now had to pull out.

“Tuberculosis is a frightening thing and it is slowly drifting up the country.”

The spread of bovine TB has closed David's Herefordshire farm. He has been taking his prize-winning cattle to shows for five decades - but now he must stop.
