Tens of thousands of tweeters included the hashtag, while farmers’ pictures of #HappyCows showcased the high welfare standards within the British dairy industry - whatever the system used - and promoted the quality of the milk it produces.

Our own Twitter content reached 100,000 timelines. The NFUonline website saw a spike in traffic as social media users clicked on links to content including blogs and guidance on how to back British farming when buying dairy products.

More than 15,000 people watched a video on the NFU Facebook page featuring British dairy farmer Emma Harrison - and 55,000 users saw our Wolrd Milk Day content through the day.
