Project Darwin includes a comprehensive review of every aspect of Müller’s operations in order to simplify the business and reduce cost.
The business will commence a 45 day statutory collective consultation at its network of six dairies and cannot yet rule out ‘necessary action,’ such as closing a manufacturing site, to bring capacity into line with customer requirements.
NFU Dairy Board Chairman Michael Oakes said:
The NFU have been in contact with both Muller and the Muller Farmer Milk Group to discuss the potential impact this review might have on its dairy farmer suppliers.
With over 1,600 dairy farmers across the UK supplying Müller it is important that the business is sustainable and able to thrive. However we are concerned over what potential factory closures will mean for producers and will continue to engage with Muller over the next few months to seek clarification and help support any members affected.
