NFU Dairy Development Group

Dairy cows World Milk Day _34816

The programme offers an exclusive insight into the supply chain, industry organisations and influencing policy. With a focus on innovation and competitiveness, up to 12 successful applicants will get the opportunity to speak directly to major dairy processors, manufacturers and retailers. At the heart of the programme is business networking and members of the group will meet with senior staff at the NFU, AHDB, NML, Red Tractor and Dairy UK. There will be the opportunity to speak to MPs and Defra during a visit to Westminster, where successful applicants will learn more about our core lobbying and political activity.

The group will also be given media and presentation skills training, with advice to handle tough questions from journalists and to represent their sector in a positive and professional way.

The previous NFU Dairy Development Group was run in 2010 and led to the 2014-16 National Dairy Board Chairman and 2016-18 Vice Chairman, as well as board appointees and other members going on to be influential in many dairy groups around the UK.

NFU Dairy Board Vice Chairman Tom Rawson said the following:

“Having input from the next generation of farmers is vital if we are to be effective - many of the decisions dairy farmers make today will have a major impact on our industry for years to come.”

“Having been a part of the previous next generation group, I found the experience both enjoyable and informative; learning huge amounts about the dairy industry and how the NFU, Defra and EU organisations such as Copa Cogeca function.”

“It gave me a broader outlook and the self-confidence to go back and further develop my dairy business. For me, it led to my current role as vice chairman of the national Dairy Board, and as part of that role I will be leading on the Dairy Development Group."
