By continuing the GCA's term in office, suppliers are provided with an extra level of protection from unfair treatment by retailers. The GCA has many years of experience in enforcing the Groceries Supply Code Of Practice (GSCOP) and has developed strong relationships with all retailers that the Code applies to.
NFU President Minette Batters said: “The food chain sector has been under enormous pressure to ensure that consumer’s needs are met during this pandemic. We welcome the GCA’s reappointment at this extraordinary time and believe it provides suppliers with much-needed reassurance and consistency, particularly when it comes to ensuring that retailers abide by the GSCOP.”
Christine Tacon had intended to step down as GCA at the end of her term in June 2020 and recruitment for her replacement had begun, but the government is yet to announce who the successor is.
