Fresh burger sales increased by 30%, suggesting al fresco dining has tempted shoppers over the warm period. The warm weather and World Cup has also influenced where shoppers buy their groceries. Customers have been shopping more locally and as a result Co-op sales have increased by 6.4% over the 12 week period, the highest recorded since October 2011.

Asda also has sales increases of 3.7%, their strongest growth in 5 years. Asda have held their market share of 15.1% over the 12 week period. Morrisons pose strong growth of 2.9% in sales. Premium lines outperformed cheaper own label options. Morrisons have continued sales growth since January 2017 however have lost market share of 0.1% to 10.5% of the total grocery market.

Tesco convenience express stores contributed to contribute to sales growth of 2.3%, however their market share declined by 0.3% over the 12 week period to 27.6%. Sainsbury’s experienced sales growth of 0.8% however their market share declined by 0.4% to 15.6%. Waitrose market share declined by 0.1% to 5% of the total market, although sales increased 2.8%.

Lidl saw sales increase by 9.7% and a market share increase of 0.3% to 5.4%. Aldi sales increase of 10.9% and have a market share high of 7.5%. Aldi and Lidl are close to having a combined share of 13% however there is some speculation new entrants to the discount market could put pressure on the retailers.
