Lancashire sheep farmer Thomas Binns has been elected the new chairman of the NFU uplands forum, following a two-year term as vice-chairman.
Mr Binns replaces the previous forum chairman Robin Milton, who has stepped down after six years leading the group.
Thomas welcomed his election as chairman and the opportunity to represent uplands members nationally: “I’m delighted to have been voted into this position and look forward to working with the uplands membership.
“Now is a critical time for upland farming. We must continue to build on the already strong political recognition of uplands areas and their importance, while reinforcing the unquestionable links between food production, environmental delivery and the vast range of public goods and services upland farming provides.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Robin Milton for his previous six years of service to the uplands forum and for his unquestionable passion and drive to ensure the best outcomes for our uplands members.”
Yorkshire sheep farmer David Airey has also been elected by the forum as vice-chairman.
