Mr Findlay, who farms cattle and sheep in the North York Moors National Park, was previously the board’s vice-chairman.

After his election, Mr Findlay said: “I'm delighted to be elected as NFU livestock board chairman. I look forward to working with both industry and government to create the best possible environment for the beef and sheep supply chain over the coming years, to support and grow a productive and profitable beef and sheep sector.

“I am looking to maintain the strongest possible links with grassroots producers and I will work harder than ever to represent our members along every step of the journey.”

Wyn Evans has been elected as vice-chairman to the board. Mr Evans is an upland beef and sheep farmer near Aberystwyth, Wales.

Mr Evans said: “I’m very happy to have been elected vice-chairman and will represent members to the best of my ability. I’m from Wales, and we need to generate more collaborative thinking with our colleagues in England."
