Seed processing contract open for expressions of interest

As AB Sugar owns the seed processing company Germains, NFU Sugar has sole responsibility for negotiating the supply of seed priming, pelleting and treatment.

We are seeking expressions of interest in the provision of priming, pelleting and treatment of the UK’s beet seed for the 2020 sugar beet crop and potentially future years. (Separately, the UK seed account will be contracting for and ordering the UK’s 2020 raw seed requirements in the coming months.)

Interested parties will be required to prime, pellet and treat raw seed, and to make the pelleted product available in the UK for delivery through the UK seed account’s logistics.

We would like to invite any interested parties with proven experience in priming, pelleting and treating sugar beet seed to detail in writing what can be offered to meet our requirements under each of the following criteria:

  • Proven results of priming and pelleting technology/technologies on:
    • Yield
    • Emergence speed
  • Price per unit broken down for:
    • Priming seed
    • Pelleting seed
    • Seed treatments
    • Application of treatments to seed
    • Delivering to the UK
    • Volume discounts
    • Contract length discounts
  • Payment terms
  • Seed treatment combinations available
  • Timescales:
    • Between receipt of UK seed account’s order, raw seed arrival and delivery of packaged seed
    • to apply any further treatments subsequently required by the UK seed account
  • Quality control measures in place
  • Calibration of priming to raw seed
  • Total and daily capacity to:
    • Prime seed
    • Pellet seed
    • Treat seed
  • Product launch rate and future developments
  • Accountability in the event of issues
  • Options for return of unsold seed from the UK seed account
  • Mitigations offered against supply and quality risks
  • Any other benefit that can be offered

Written expressions of interest must be received by 9am on Tuesday 28 May. After this date we will consider these and may enter into further negotiation with potential parties before reaching a decision. We may contract with one or more potential parties.
