The General Lighthouse Authorities of the UK and Ireland (GLA), which is the overarching organisation name for keeper of lighthouses and sea navigation around the British Isles, is currently carrying out a survey of users of their GPS service to understand more about the current and future user requirements of their Differential GPS service.

The GLA operates 14 Differential GPS reference stations located around the British Isles that provide users with enhanced accuracy and integrity information. The system currently provides corrections for GPS L1. The GLA service is usable by anyone with a suitable receiver and provides full land coverage of the British Isles, offering positional accuracies in the order of 1-2m, depending on location, and integrity that the system is working correctly.

Due to the nature of GPS, it is available both on land as well as at sea. To this end GLA wants to understand what land based users such as NFU members are using the signal for and their future requirements

The differential GPS service currently provides corrections for GPS (single frequency) only, but the technology is being developed to enable corrections to be provided for all Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), should there be a requirement. The survey results will be used to establish current and future user needs.

The survey should take only five minutes to complete. Click here to take part.

All responses will be kept confidential and any identifiable information will be managed in accordance with UK Data protection laws and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), further information on this is provided at the start of the survey.

Survey responses can be provided until 30 September 2018.
