Earlier this year John Pawsey, an organic arable farmer from Suffolk, was elected as Chairman of the NFU organic forum.  John was clear that the forum needed purpose and direction so quickly set about discussion with the other forum members to define a strategy for 2018/2019.

The strategy covers three main areas of focus over the next two years;

Enhancing Communication

  • To re-position the perception of organic farming within the wider agricultural context
  • To assist in upskilling key stakeholders in their understanding of organic farming practices to build and share knowledge
  • To highlight the commonality between different farming systems to help build a new narrative post Brexit

Ensuring the marketplace is fit for purpose

  • To continue representing organic member views within Westminster and Brussels
  • To identify research and development areas relevant to organic farming
  • To support the development of an English Organic Action Plan

Highlighting the opportunities organic farming provides

  • To take every opportunity to celebrate success
  • To engage with the next generation
  • To promote what we do and why we do it

Further detail and scoping will now commence on how to achieve this strategy.  The Forum will communicate this to members shortly.
