How to use the AI case finder
- Change the Case status to filter between current and lifted cases. Current cases have disease control zones in place. Lifted cases are those where the zones have been lifted.
- Choose which distance you want to search within. The minimum distance you can search within is 15km.
- Enter your postcode or a name of a location
- Press Find cases
The AI case finder is listing all current cases. Lifted cases display for 90 days after the date the disease control zone has been lifted.
Results are ordered by distance from your entered location.

14 February 2024, Hutton Cranswick
On 14 February 2024 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a premises near Hutton Cranswick, East Yorkshire, Yorkshire.
Updated on 12 March 2024: Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance within the zone, the 3km Protection Zone has been lifted and merged with the 10km Surveillance Zone.
Updated on 21 March 2024: Following successful completion of surveillance and disease control activity, the 10km Surveillance Zone has been revoked.
Housing measures
From 00:01 on Tuesday 18 April 2023, mandatory housing measures were lifted across England and Wales following the latest assessment of the risk level. are due to come into force in all areas of England.
This means that poultry and other captive birds will no longer need to be housed and can be kept outside, unless they are in a protection zone.
Although there is no longer a requirement to house birds from 18 April, biosecurity measures will remain in force across England as infection may still be circulating in the environment for some time.
AIPZ announcements
Following the reduction in risk level to 'low' for all poultry, the national Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) in place across Great Britain was lifted at noon on 4 July 2023. Gatherings of Galliforme poultry and Galliforme birds are also permitted across Great Britain. The exact rules on bird gatherings across each nation can be found at: Bird gatherings.

- Medium for wild birds
- Low for all poultry

- Poultry keepers and members of the public should report dead wild birds to the Defra helpline on 03459 33 55 77.
- Bird keepers should report suspicion of disease in their own birds to APHA on 03000 200 301 (England) or 0300 303 8268 (Wales).
- Bird keepers should also familiarise themselves with the government’s avian influenza advice.
