West Midlands Farm safety
Farm health and safety is of paramount importance, from safe use of machinery, awareness of on farm dangers through to working with livestock and fire prevention.

Register for our farm safety event at the Staffordshire Showground, 31 March, 10am.

Book in for our free farm safety event at the Staffordshire Showground on 31 March at 10am; call the regional office on 01952 400500.

Farm safety will take centre stage at a high-profile event put on by NFU West Midlands and the Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society.

Open to all NFU members, their farm workers and neighbours, the free regional farm health and safety workshop will have live demonstrations, cover vital topics and feature compelling talks.

Delegates from Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire are urged to head to Staffordshire County Showground on 31 March for a 10am start.

They will start the day with tea and a bacon bap before visiting ‘health and safety stations’ to get insights into best practice and accident prevention.

The event will be held in the Argyle and Sandylands Centres.

According to the HSE’s accident statistics for farming, forestry and fisheries there were 34 deaths and 12,000 non-fatal accidents, with 11,000 workers suffering from work-related ill health, for the year up to March 2021.

Emma Hamer, NFU Worcestershire county adviser, has brought the event together and said: “Farming is a dangerous industry with a very poor safety record – and farmers and agricultural workers are the people who can change that.

“Just one accident on farm is one too many.

“We have put this on from 10am to 1pm to pull together the best farm and safety experts in one place and it will be accessible and useful.

“We hope it will help you make informed decisions on how to approach safety on farm.”

There will be advice, guidance and support on safe livestock handling; tractor safety, fire and rescue, NFU Mutual risk assessment services, wellbeing support and much more.

There will also be an NFU Lantra online training module on farm safety and a prize draw.

Booking is essential and the first 100 members through the door will receive a free bacon roll and cup of tea as well as a farm safety pack.

Basis and NRoSO points are available for those who attend the event with additional points available for those at the regional combinable crops board afterwards.

To book call the NFU regional office on 01952 400500 or [email protected] by email.
