As 2021 draws to a close, Organic Forum Chair Andrew Burgess considers what lies in store for 2022.

The NFU Organic Forum is working to find solutions and opportunities for the sector within a number of challenging areas.

Over the next year, we will continue with in-person meetings if possible, as we recognise how important these have been for fostering meaningful discussions on the current challenges faced and turning them into positive actions and innovative ideas.

Increased engagement

We will also look to increase engagement with industry and stakeholders to understand how we can leverage influence as a forum.

In the upcoming year, we will be looking to understand how organic can deliver on carbon and the environment through increased data collection. This will help our fight to ensure the sector receives recognition in future policy.

Net zero ambition

The forum is continuing its work to understand what the NFU’s net zero ambition looks like for the sector and how future agricultural policy and trade deals can provide opportunities to ensure we can defend and protect organic businesses and to allow them to thrive.

So much to offer

We have so much to offer farming and we have answers to lots of the challenges. We are a commercial, professional and innovative group and we’ve chosen to search the natural world for answers.

However, we are not perfect and have our own issues to address including fossil fuel usage, tillage and plastics to name a few, but we are working hard to find the answers.
