I’m sure we are all a little weary of the large number of consultations we’ve faced in recent months, but there’s one due soon which will matter to all of us growing crops, and it’s important you act now to register in order to participate in shaping the future of our levy board, the AHDB.
The AHDB, and its work, is a topic of discussion at many of our meetings across the country. I hear a range of views from members, but one thing is certain: if you want to have a say on how levy money is spent, now is your chance, but you must register to do so.
Registering is a must
AHDB is now starting the process of getting people signed up and it may sound strange that you need to, but because of the way the levy is collected from arable farmers they don’t always have everyone’s details. So therefore, please take to the time to register and make sure you can take part: Shape the Future of farming – vote on the work AHDB delivers for you | AHDB.
Vote on priorities
We don’t yet know what the exact questions will be in the spring, but we are expecting that farmers will be asked to vote on their priorities for AHDB’s work over the next five years.
In the meantime, if you haven’t already, I would urge you to make time to find out a little bit more about what the AHDB do across our sector.
Value from your levy money
I and your Crops Board representatives speak regularly to people across the AHDB, and we are always seeking the best value from your levy money, whether that’s looking for improvements to RB209 to help farmers use organic manures more effectively, calling for better, more timely economic data, or bringing more commerciality to the RL or monitor farms.
The AHDB have become better at listening and responding to the needs to farmers, and this will be increasingly important given the range of challenges our sector faces.
Shaping the future
I am hopeful that the process in the spring will allow farmers to feel that they have shaped the AHDB’s future properly and the outcome is honoured and actioned. Whatever your views, make sure you have your say.
