Cereals, the unmissable arable event, will this year take place on 13 and 14 June in Nottingham. 

What to expect

Cereals 2023 is set to be as successful as ever, and with over 17,000 farmers expected to visit this year it is a fantastic opportunity to network and grow your business. Visitors will be able to experience the latest arable service and products and see live demonstrations and inspiring sessions over the two days.

David Exwood, NFU Vice President joins Charles Whitaker, Agri-Business Consultant and Managing Partner of Brown & Co to give a political update from an NFU standpoint including a focus on SFI rollout.

Your Harvest Campaign

On the opening day of Cereals Minette Batters, NFU President will welcome members to the NFU stand and will introduce this year’s #YourHarvest campaign.

My Story: Erin McNaught (Cereals Stories Stage)

2022 NFU Student & Young Farmer Ambassador Erin McNaught is a 4th generation farmer at Pandy Farm.  Erin won BBC’s One Man and his Dog and was the British Young Handler Champion in 2018. Join Erin to learn about her journey into farming and her experiences with social media.

My Story: Olly Harrison (Cereals Stories Stage)

NFU Crops Board member Olly Harrison is a farm contractor with a strong social media presence.  Olly is driving a combine harvester from Land’s End to John o’Groats to raise awareness of men’s suicide. Stop by and hear Olly's unique story and check out the combine!

The Crops team, including Matt Culley, Crops Board Chair and Anthony Hopkins, Chief Combinable Crops Adviser, will explain the journey from the review into UK ammonia emissions in 2020 to the introduction of a self-regulation approach to urea use on farms in England.

Panel session hosted by David Exwood, NFU Vice President, NFU Student & Young Farmer Ambassadors along with NFU staff discuss the pros and cons of regenerative agriculture, and whether they see a place for it in the succession and future of their farms.

Claire Robinson, NFU Senior Countryside Adviser will provide an update on ELMS, highlighting the latest changes and explaining what they mean for your farm. There will be an opportunity to ask questions so that you can make sure you understand how the new scheme might fit into your farm business.

Launch of the Cereals Development Programme (CDP): 

Identifying and engaging the potential leaders of tomorrow within the cereal production sector, the NFU and grain co-op Openfield are offering the opportunity to learn more about the cereal supply chain, to meet others involved in the sector and to network. Applications for the 2023/2024 CDP are now open for NFU members aged 25 to 35-years-old.

    • Meet members of the NFU’s Combinable Crops and Sugar board and speak to one of our NFU advisers who are on the stand today to help with farm business related queries and to discuss how the NFU is working on your behalf on a range of issues.

    • Meet NFU Director General Terry Jones and NFU Director of Membership & Regions Kevin Pearce.

    • NFU Mutual Agents are committed to providing a professional and local service to all customers, existing and new. They understand the demands of farming and they’re close enough to give you advice and hands-on support when you need it. Call onto the stand to meet the team and start a conversation today.

    • BASIS/NRoSO points: The NFU will be part of the Cereals Knowledge Trail. To claim your points, please complete our questionnaire on keeping access to urea fertilisers through option 4 and you will receive a stamp. Completed stamp cards should be returned to BASIS/NRoSO stands to pick up your points.

    • Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available.

David Exwood, NFU Vice President will chair this session, shedding new light on the Sustainable Farming Incentives, Countryside Stewardship Plus, and a host of other Government-funded grant schemes to encourage biodiversity, protect and enhance precious habitats, and prevent pollution.

    • NFU Education: As Cereals’ new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion partner, NFU Education are welcoming 60 local Secondary school students to include a guided tour of the event with bespoke interactive sessions. Led by a variety of exhibitors, content will include topics such as soil science, use of drones and robotics in agriculture, cutting edge farm machinery. There will also be opportunities to interact with young, diverse role models from the world of farming.
