“I’ll be going out onto farms with Lancaster group secretary Matthew Earl to assist him on NFU Mutual insurance renewal visits with the aim of me being able to complete the policy renewals of our agricultural clients on my own in the next few weeks,” explained 25 year old Sarah.

“It’s not just about the NFU Mutual side of the business though. I’ve already spent a lot of time shadowing NFU Lancashire County Adviser Adam Briggs on tenancy issues and I’ll be looking to sign up some new full farming members for the organisation soon.”

The daughter of a Cumbrian dairy farmer, Sarah grew up at Elm Tree Farm in Crooklands. Her dad, Arthur, currently milks 120 Holstein Friesian cattle so she has a working knowledge of the industry.

Only the second ever trainee group secretary, Sarah’s six and a half year career so far has been spent working for the NFU and NFU Mutual as sales support in the Kendal office – a job she got after leaving sixth form college. Sarah also has a foundation degree in ecology and conservation management – gaining a distinction.

Sarah added: “Witnessing how businesses in different agricultural sectors operate has been extremely interesting and the welcome I’ve received on the various farms I’ve visited has been lovely.”
