OP sheep dips and implications for operator safety

Sheep Scab is a major health and welfare threat to sheep, and for many years one of the most effective medicinal tools is to immerse the sheep in an organophosphate dip. But these are dangerous chemicals if not used correctly or safely. The NFU, mindful of the safety of its members, has reviewed its policy towards OP dips. The policy statement, which was approved by NFU Policy Board in May 2014, can be downloaded here.

The NFU is involved in industry initiatives working towards the eradication of sheep scab in the national flock but with sheep scab apparently on the increase, and few effective alternative treatments or diagnostics, it is vital that OP dips are used responsibly and effectively.
