The NFU has submitted a response to Defra on the consultation about new basic rules for farmers to tackle diffuse pollution.
The NFU response did not agree with the need for further regulation and rejected placing any of the eleven proposed basic rules into legislation. The NFU believes that the best way to support the environment is via a non-regulatory and advice led approach.

The NFU response is based on feedback from members across all farming sectors in England. A response from Defra on the way forwrd is anticipated in early 2016.
