Working near gas pipes or electricity cables?

Please be aware of the dangers below ground.

If you are planning to work near, or in the vicinity of a gas pipeline, please refer to the ‘Dial before you dig’ leaflet (click on the picture to download).

This leaflet explains the measures you should take in order to stay safe when working near gas pipelines.

Such works can include:

  • Fencing
  • Draining and ditching
  • Tree planting
  • Surface soil removal
  • Mole ploughing
  • Deep cultivation in excess of 0.5m
  • Building construction, including barns and animal pens
  • Tree felling or transportation
  • Fires
  • Tipping and stacking material over the infrastructure
  • Movement of heavy plant and machinery.
