Control measures have been put in place which include a 3km and 10km protection and surveillance zone. It has been confirmed that the UK and EU has not recently received any consignments from the affected area.

This strain of virus was found earlier this year in South East Asia in poultry and wild birds. The H5 gene has high sequence similarity to that of H5N1 HPAI.

At this time of year there is an increase in the risk of a notifiable disease outbreak as it is the wild bird migration season coupled with a seasonal increase inpoultry numbers. It is vital that poultry keepers maintain high levels of biosecurity and promptly report clinical signs of disease.
