More than 124 million HGV miles have been taken off UK roads in three years, according to the international food and grocery organisation
IGD.

It says its UK Sustainable Distribution initiative has met its four-year target of cutting 120 million road miles a year early - the equivalent of removing 2,000 lorries from Britain's roads and conserving 60 million litres of diesel fuel per year.
The reduction has been achieved by initiatives including the use of double-deck vehicles and the sharing of lorries to deliver grocery products.
Originally spearheaded by companies involved in Efficient Consumer Response UK, which I managed by the IGD in the UK, activities have been extended across the industry and now include 40 of the UK’s leading brands.
