Storm Barbara - what you need to know

Muddy track_13194

Storm Barbara is expected to bring high winds rather than rain. Therefore whilst flooding is not expected, or will be localised, the winds may cause disruption to power, affecting Northern Power’s network.

Members are advised that you can find real-time flooding information, weather advice and news on our Adverse Weather, Water and Flooding Toolbox.

Northern Powergrid has said:

The first of a series of anticipated weather systems is expected to hit across our operating area from around 9am on Friday through to 9am on Christmas Eve.  Current forecasts are indicating severe gales with potential gusts of up to 70 mph in some areas.

A further storm system of strong winds has been forecast by the Met Office across our operating area and is expected to peak during Christmas morning.

We’re monitoring the weather very closely and are already taking action to ensure that we have extra engineers ready to restore power and repair any damage to our network caused by Storm Barbara and further expected strong winds over the festive period.

You can contact Northern Power on the free 105 power cut number. Or call NFU CallFirst: 0370 845 8458.

The NFU will continue to monitor the situation in case any further storms are predicted. The Environment Agency's five day flood forecast does not currently predict any flooding over the festive period.
