Britain’s biggest agricultural machinery event, the LAMMA Show at the NEC, is delivering again with manufacturers highlighting a dazzling array of new equipment, says agricultural journalist Jane Carley.

LAMMA will be the UK show debut for the Quadtrac 715 AFS Connect, Case IH’s most powerful production tractor. It is powered by the new FPT Cursor 16L TS, delivering 778 peak horsepower at 1,900rpm and 3,255Nm peak torque at 1,400rpm.

Wider saddle tanks on the rear frame hold a total of 1,968 litres of diesel, 11% up on the Quadtrac 645. The engine powers the latest Case IH 16-speed PowerDrive powershift transmission with APM (Automatic Productivity Management), while track units have also been upgraded.

Tracks are 305mm longer for more ground contact, enhanced power transfer, greater traction and reduced compaction. Drive wheel diameter is 1,008mm, up from 910mm, with five track lugs engaged with the drive wheel rather than four, to handle the higher torque and maximise track life.

Meanwhile, New Holland will show its new CR11 combine, developed to provide higher productivity, with minimal grain loss, improved residue management, and more automation.

Significantly increase productivity

The CR11 features 775hp C16 engine, 2x24inch rotors, grain tank capacity of 20,000 litres and a 210 litre-per-second unload rate, which are all designed to significantly increase productivity.

The new Twin Clean cleaning shoe comes with two cleaning systems behind each other, with two upper sieves, two lower sieves, two clean grain augers and two sets of pressure sensors to measure cleaning shoe load. It is fully automated to guarantee even cross distribution of the cleaning shoe, for maximum capacity at loss levels close to zero.

In the event of a combine pluggage, the automatic ‘deslug’ procedure guides the operator through an unplugging procedure in a way that clears the combine in minutes rather than hours without leaving the cab. The CR11 is fitted with a 15m (50ft) MacDon draper header and 900/65R46 tyres which have been developed in co-operation with Michelin.

Massey Ferguson will bring the new large frame MF 9S series, which includes six models from 285 to 425hp. All models feature the innovative Protec-U design, the Dyna-VT transmission, best-in-class visibility from the new cab, while the flagship model has an unladen power-to-weight ratio of 25.4kg/hp.

The new MF 9S range replaces the outgoing MF 8700 S series and all six models are powered by an updated six-cylinder, 8.4-litre AGCO Power engine, with EPM (Engine Power Management) offering up to 30hp extra for all models, except the flagship 9S.425. Fendt was due to display the breadth of its range with the Ideal 10T combine with Superflow 12.2m header, Rogator 655 sprayer and a wide range of grassland machinery alongside its tractors.

Minimise compaction

The combine will debut a clever wheel-weight lifting device, which enables operators to remove weights of up to 1250 kilos in the field safely and quickly to help minimise compaction on soft soils or improve fuel efficiency by carrying less weight on the road. KRM (Keith Rennie Machinery Ltd) will show a new model of fertiliser spreader from the Bogballe range.

The L15W fertiliser spreader brings the benefits of weigh-cell technology to orchards, vineyards, the amenity sector, and smaller farms. Fully GPS compatible, allowing variable rate application, auto on/off and section control, the L15W can be delivered either with its own Totz control box or as an ISObus machine. It comes in two hopper widths: 1.25m and 2.10m with capacities from 500 litres to 1,600 litres.

Narrower ‘Base’ hoppers are ideally suited to working in vineyards and orchards, while the wider ‘Plus’ hopper machines suit smaller farms and amenity applications. GT Bunning and Sons will bring the Bunning Lowlander 120 Compact Narrow HBD spreader. Four new models feature narrower bodies to achieve lower application rates while retaining the two 1,100mm spinning discs as standard on HBD machines.

They are designed to allow the use of wider tyres to reduce compaction while staying within a 3m road width; lower application rates can also be applied due to a narrower aperture. The Narrow range features a 1,250mm-wide body compared with the 1,500mm body on standard HBD machines. Especially suited to applying heavy products, a larger floor drive gearbox, increasing torque from 5,000Nm to 8,000Nm, and larger motors on the gearbox to increase torque at low floor speeds have also been added to the range.

New Stage V versions of JCB’s 270 and 270T Teleskid compact telescopic boom loader will also be on show, with powertrain and cab updates. The new models are powered by the JCB DieselMAX 430 engine delivering 74hp with more torque output, and greater fuel economy. In the cab, a 177mm (7in) display provides quicker and easier access to more machine settings; operators can select maximum forward and reverse speed, acceleration rate and power management settings. Other features of the single boom, skid-steer include electro-hydraulic auto bucket levelling when both lifting and lowering the boom and improved visibility forwards, to left side and upwards, which have been achieved by cab structure changes.

JCB returned to the show with updated Teleskid compact telescopic boom loader models, powered by the JCB DieselMAX 430 engine delivering 74hp.

Following the purchase of Warwick Trailers, Ktwo has revamped the offering. There is now an expanded selection of trailers, including tipping trailers ranging from 4 to 12 tonnes, flatbed trailers spanning 18 to 28ft, 7 and 10-tonne drop deck trailers, and drop-side trailers varying from 2 to 12 tonnes, tailored to meet smaller-scale agricultural needs.

Trailers feature shot-blasted paint preparation and all are finished with a two-pack undercoat and a two-pack topcoat paint. Dale’s MTD (Mounted Tine Drill) is now available with a split tank for seed and fertiliser (or any two different seeds/products). Each tine is fitted with a narrow coulter which blends the two different products that are coming from the seed tank. The tank has a 1,500-litre capacity and is split 50:50, with each half of the hopper fitted with an Accord seed metering unit, controlled via the RDS Isocan control system. Available in working widths from 3-8m, customers can also choose their own row spacing from 12.5, 16.6, 18.75, 20 or 25cm.

Expanding range

Expanding SIP’s range of mower conditioners, the DISC HD 1000 D FS offers working widths of 9.20m to 10.20m and the DISC HD 1100 D FS working widths of 10.5m to 11.08m – now the largest butterfly mower conditioner available from the company.

These mowers offer capacity of up to 18.5ha/hr and 20ha/hr respectively and are fitted with steel finger conditioners. The DISC HD 1000 D FS can be equipped with cross conveyor belts for swath merging, allowing the operator to mow, condition, and prepare forage swaths in one pass.
