Introduction

The Constitution of the NFU states that NFU Council shall appoint and maintain a Governance Board which is governed by its own Terms of Reference. This page summarises the responsibilities, composition, elections process and meeting schedule and includes details of current members.

Responsibilities

The Governance Board has responsibility to undertake the following on behalf of Council: -

Composition

The Governance Board shall comprise: -

Elections

The National Commodity Board chairs and Regional Board chairs (three from one group and two from the other) shall be elected by ordinary resolution at the next Council meeting held after the biennial election of the National Officeholders.

Nominations must be received in advance and supported by a short personal statement. Procedures and deadlines for this will be advised by the Secretary.

The election of members of the Governance Board is a Weighted Voting Matter.

Successful candidates shall hold office for two years or until their office as chair ceases, whichever is the shorter period.

Meetings

The Governance Board shall determine its own schedule of meetings but must meet at least six times in a year. A National Officeholder, as agreed amongst their number from time to time, shall chair the Governance Board.

All meetings shall be called by at least ten clear days’ notice, unless shorter notice is agreed, and the notice shall specify the time, place and general nature of the business to be transacted. Alternates are not permitted.
