Gangmasters: complying with the law

The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) is the regulatory body that seeks to ensure there is fair treatment of agricultural workers and to protect them from exploitation. From 7 April 2026, the GLAA will be part of the Fair Work Agency (FWA). This new government agency will bring together existing enforcement agencies who are responsible for enforcing employment rights such as national minimum wage, holiday rights and pay, and gangmaster licensing. The work undertaken in the past by the GLAA will continue to be provided by the FWA. Any references to the GLAA below will include the FWA from 7 April 2026.
The FWA will be able to investigate an employer’s compliance without the need for a complaint to have been made by any of their workforce.
