Since April 2017, farmers (and other eligible business customers) in England have been able to choose their supplier of water and wastewater retail services. When the non-household retail market opened, customers were transferred from their water company (which still exists as a ‘water wholesaler’ and still directly bills household customers) to one of the new water retailers.
