There have been packed houses for a series of farm resilience meetings that were held across the South region.

They were designed to help members assess their enterprise and prepare for the future, with speakers from legal panel firms Clarke Willmott, Foot Anstey and Thrings, accountants PKF Francis Clark, Mitchells, Albert Goodman, Butler and Co, Martin and Co and Hazlewoods, an NFU Mutual financial adviser and land agents Symonds and Sampson.

They covered topics including wills, trusts, gifting strategies, ownership structures, IHT liabilities for tenants, valuations, investment structures and tax efficiency.

Really valuable

Cornish member Wendy Nicholas said: “It’s important that we’re all talking about inheritance, succession and so on.

“It’s been really valuable and I hope it will lead us to be the generation that makes the changes, has succession and provides a strong future for our industry.”

Overall around 340 members attended the nine meetings, there were 21 speakers who gave a total of 24 hours of professional time, with a total value of £5,000.

Thanks to everyone who supported the meetings. Keep an eye out for further resilience events, which will be announced in due course.
